Sri Lanka to import more drug items from Beximco Pharma
Sri Lanka plans to import more drug items from country′s leading drug manufacturer Beximco Pharmaceuticals Limited (BPL).
Visiting Sri Lankan Health Minister Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva disclosed this during his visit to the Beximco Pharma plant at Tongi in Gazipur today (Friday, January 27, 2006). Sri Lanka is currently importing six products from Beximco Pharma.
The Sri Lankan minister showed special interest for the company′s high-tech specialised products like inhalers, nasal sprays, suppositories, injectables and IV fluids (Saline). Impressed with Beximco Pharma products, the Sri Lanka minister came to Bangladesh to see the production line and plant of BPL to import more drug products.
Seeing different production lines and installations of BPL plant, the minister highly appreciated the quality, absolutely sterile environment and minimum human contact in producing drug in the plant.
He visited the state-of-the-art IV Fluid plant, Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI) plant and new USFDA standard Oral Solid Dosage (OSD) plant. He also visited the highly equipped R&D lab.
He was accompanied by Deputy Minister of Plan Implementation of Sri Lanka Mr. H A Hussain Bhaila, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare of Bangladesh Mr. Mizanur Rahman Sinha, Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Dhaka Mr. Gamini S. Munasinghe, President of Bangladesh Association of Pharmaceutical Industry (BAPI) Mr. S M Shafiuzzaman and Second Secretary and Head of Chancery Mr. Vipulatheja Wishwanath Aponsu.
Mr. Afsar Uddin Ahmed, Director (Commercial) and Mr. Rizvi Ul Kabir, Senior Marketing Manager of Beximco Pharma welcomed the ministers and other guests.
Regarding the exports of the company, Mr. Rizvi Ul Kabir said, ‘Beximco Pharma exports wide range of drugs covering all major therapeutic classes and dosages forms to twenty (20) countries’
‘Besides expanding BPL’s export business in these 20 countries, we aim at becoming a true global player by entering US and European markets within 2008’, Mr. Rizvi Ul Kabir said while making a colourful multimedia presentation on the Beximco Pharma activities at the plant.
‘We are also interested to transfer technical know-how to Sri Lanka and establish joint-ventures with Sri Lanka’, Mr. Rizvi added.
BPL launched exports to Sri Lanka from January 01, 2006 with six drugs of four generics. Twenty-eight more drugs are on the card of getting registration. The company received spot order worth US$ 52,000 in the recently-ended Bangladesh single country fair in Sri Lanka.
So far, BPL exported its products to Germany, Singapore, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Iran, Pakistan, Kenya, Mozambique, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, South Korea, Philippines, Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan.
